Description
Rumor has it that the melody, one of Tchaikovsky's most famous, was founded on a folk song whistled by a house painter. Since the melody is much easier to play than it sounds, this work is a perfect vehicle for teaching phrasing and a slow expressive style. In this abridged edition, the second theme is omitted and the key has been changed from B-flat Major to D Major. Andante Cantabile is an ideal ballad selection for contest or festival.
