Description: This is a scherzando type of piece in the late elementary level. The piece can be played at almost any speed the student can “master.” The LH jumps around with the melody.
Purpose: To develop a short, crisp staccato, while not playing close to the keys.
To learn to keep a steady beat established at the beginning of the song.
To teach the value of e compared to x.
Suggestions for Instruction: Point out that both hands start in the treble clef (the up-stems are played by the RH, the down-stems by the LH.) Practice the LH first. Remember to use crisp staccatos because the bird can't stand to stay on the “hot wire!”
Keep the whole piece at the tempo of the slowest section and gradually increase the tempo.
Key: C
