The arranger here has created an arrangement of Russian Folk Songs that combines the somberness of a dark Russian winter (Song of the Volga Boatmen) with the excitement and vitality of a Russian dance (Meadowland). Each section grows out of an alto saxophone solo and builds to a massive climax. This well-written and exciting arrangement could be a perfect programmatic addition to any concert, especially a concert with an international flavor.
