*Funkzilla: Rumble in Neo Tokyo* is a funky, fast-paced, and bombastic adventure, cruising through the different wards of the futuristic city of Neo Tokyo. An amalgamation of Japanese traditional music and Western Funk, *Funkzilla* combines the two genres into a unique work that makes use of Japanese scales, and the genre popularized by artists like James Brown; Stevie Wonder; Marvin Gaye; Tower of Power; Earth, Wind, and Fire; and so many more. The piece makes a fantastic opener, starting out with a Baritone Saxophone cadenza modeled after Charles Mingus's "Moanin," or a great concert closer as the driving rhythms bring the piece to a raucous end.
