Baldassare Donato (also Donati) (1525-1530 - June 1603) was an Italian composer and singer of the Venetian school of the late Renaissance.He was maestro di cappella of St. Marks Basilica at the end of the 16th century. He wrote a number of a light secular form of madrigal known as the villanella, of Neapolitan origin similar to the French chanson. Their style is defined by a strong melody in the top part, and vigorous cross-rhythms.
