Description
A switchback is a curve in a mountain road where travel abruptly ΖswitchesΔ in the opposite direction, a necessary manuever for climbing some mountain passes. Robert S. Frost cleverly uses one motif for these ΖswitchbacksΔ and another for the ΖstraightawaysΔ before a presto ending depicts the end of the journey - and the traveler's sigh of relief.
