Franz Schubert's Piano Sonata No. 19 in C minor, D. 958, is the first of his final three piano sonatas, written in September 1828 just months before his death. While the trio is often seen as a unified spiritual journey, the C minor sonata stands out for its stormy, dramatic temperament and its clear dialogue with the ghost of Ludwig van Beethoven.
