The Holy Ground is a traditional nineteenth-century folksong fromCounty Cork, Ireland and is based on a Welsh sea shanty, “The Las s of Swansea Town.” Written for and dedicated to Diane Loomer, founding director of the male chorus, Chor Leoni, this is a reflective arrangement of what is often a boisrous “tavern song,” capturingthe sad sentiment of the lyrics.
