Howard Goodall was commissioned by Helen, Countess of Rosslyn to write this Psalm to celebrate the comp[letino of the Rosslyn Chapel conservation programme in March 2012. The piece is dedicated to her husband Peter, 7th Earl of Rosslyn.
It was premiered in May 2012 at the chapel, which is, as Goodall described it in a recent tweet, full of ancient mysteries, Knights Templars iconography and intriguing masonry. Whilst its links with the Knights Templars isa matter of some debate, it is a fascinating and beautiful building. It will be known by afficionados of Dan Browns The Da Vinci Code as the setting for the revelation of the last cluewhich enables the code to becracked. Goodall has reflected this connection by embedding a code into the music of the psalm. The first person to unlock the code will receive a prize!
The score is here available together with the accompanying organ and harp parts.
